The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has tasked
officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to realize that they
have the constitutional mandate and responsibility to protect every
Nigerian citizens and every other person genuinely residing in the
country.
He also charged them not only to be disciplined but also dedicated in their line of duties at all times.
Idris, who spoke yesterday in Abuja, at the graduation of Tactical
Commanders’ Course, organized by the United States Embassy, specifically
told Police tactical commanders that they must see their profession as
one that gives them mandatory responsibility to protect every citizen.
The police boss, who was represented by the Assistant
Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Operations, Taiwo Lakanu, noted that
no police officer can succeed without discipline, while reminding
officers and men of the police that indiscipline has no place in the
police.
“As tactical commanders, you know that you have a mandatory
responsibility to protect all Nigerian citizens and every other person
genuinely residing in the country, because the knowledge you have gained
individually and jointly will certainly go a long way in tackling the
menace of violent crimes.
“But I must tell you that you cannot succeed if you are not
disciplined, and as officers and men of the Force, you are all aware
that indiscipline has no place with us,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the United States Embassy for not only
sponsoring but also training the tactical commanders for the three weeks
course. Participants at the three weeks course were trained in modern
terror and crime fighting skills and tactics.
The training, which was carried out by Special Programme for Embassy
Augmentation and Response (SPEAR), Office of Anti-terrorism Assistant
(ATA), also saw the participants equipped with requisite skills and
mindset to fight terrorism not only in Nigeria but also the world over.
