Twenty six policemen on Friday emerged as tactical commanders after
completing a three-week tactical commanders’ training programme in
Abuja.
The men were trained by American security experts under the Special
Programme for Embassy Augmentation and Response, Office of
Anti-Terrorism Assistance, United States Embassy, Abuja.
It was learnt that 20 of the participants who distinguished
themselves during the programme would subsequently proceed to Jordan for
another round of training.
Presenting certificates to them, Assistant Inspector-General of
Police, Taiwo Lakanu, said the officers now had the responsibility of
protecting all Nigerians with the knowledge they acquired during the
training.
He admonished them to be disciplined and focused, reminding them that
they had acquired the necessary skill and mindset to combat terrorism.
Lakanu said, “As tactical commanders, you have a mandatory
responsibility to protect all Nigerian citizens and every other person
legally residing in this country, because the knowledge you have gained
individually and jointly will certainly go a long way in tackling the
menace of violent crimes.
“But I must tell you that you cannot succeed if you are not
disciplined, and as officers and men of the force, you are all aware
that indiscipline has no place with us.”
The AIG expressed appreciation to the American government and its
embassy in Nigeria for upgrading the crime-fighting skills of members of
the Nigeria Police Force.
